MAURICE GRAY "ROCK" RAINES

Rock Raines FLORENCE - Maurice Gray "Rock" Raines, 78, of Florence, died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at his residence after an illness. Mr. Raines was born in Darlington Co., SC, the son of the late Tyler Grey Raines and Gladies Newsome Geissert. He opened Rock's Truck Stop in 1968 with it becoming one of the largest on the east coast. He was a US Army veteran. He had several business interests in the Pee Dee area, was active in short-track racing which he won often, was an avid gamecock fan and was a member of the Gamecock Club since 1973. Surviving are his wife, Sherryll Isgett Raines of Florence; sons, Mark Grey (Chrisie) Raines and David Gray Raines, both of Florence; grandchildren, Grey Raines, William Raines, Cadie Raines, Melissa Raines and Elizabeth Raines; great-granddaugh-ter, Gracie Raines and step-children, Corey Jernigan, Chad Jernigan and Becky Jernigan Poston, all of Florence. Memorials may be made to Carolinas Hospice, PO Box 10552, Florence, SC 29502 or to a charity of one's choice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 7, 2010 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be held. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
