This is a fascinating link to an article about North Wilkesboro Speedway. It's mostly photos showing the sad state that the track is in.

Why'd they close the track again? (and NASCAR/Bruton hated it doesn't count as a valid reason. What a waste of a good, unique track that played host to some very exciting races (Nov. 1971, for one!).

great report Alex. A real shame for sure that a great track like this one was is replaced by 1 1/2 mile cookie cutter boring race producers.

The North Wilkesboro story brings tears to the eyes of this race fan who really appreciates the history from that venue. Makes it highly unlikely I'll ever vote for Bruton Smith for any elective office.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

North Wilkesboro Speedway founder, Enoch Staley's son, Mike, knew EXACTLY what the consequences would be when he sold North Wilkesboro, electing to take the money and run rather than keep promoting his family's track.

While you're pointing fingers, one could well be pointed in his direction.

Thanks for pointing that out Dave. I had not considered that opinion. I really wasn't pointing fingers, just expressing my displeasure over Bruton's apparent disregard for anything other than his bank account.

Mike swore to the Sawyer family he would never sell out... especially to Bruton.
