When we raced at the magnificent Wilson County Speedway half-mile dirt track in eastern North Carolina the 70s, several members of the Upchurch family raced with us. When the American Legion made the hugely unpopular decision to tear down the track on the fairgrounds that they owned, Edward Upchurch built a much smaller dirt track literally in his backyard just up the road off U.S. Highway 301 at Elm City, NC.

County Line Raceway gets its name from the fact that it nearly straddles the Wilson and Nash County borders. The Bell & Bell Vintage Modified Series that includes RR members has visited this family oriented facility.

On July 28, the University of North Carolina Public Television show North Carolina Weekend did a short segment featuring the track and its appeal to families. Dirt track racing is alive and well in the old Upchurch backyard.

Challenging track to drive! But great to see it featured on UNC-TV
