Hi everyone,
I have been trying to search for photographs when my father raced at I-55 Dragway and I-57 Drag Strip from about 1975 to 1982.
My father, Denis Redhage, was the driver and mechanic for a businessman, Selden Ruwwe, who owned a Phillips 66 service station andlived in Bourbon, Missouri. Selden owned a collection of rare super duty Pontiacs and raced them heavily in the 1970's.
Selden competed with two lightweight 1962 Catalinas (one sedan called the "Tin Indian" and a hardtop called "Tin Indian II" or sometimes "D-Con")and one 1963 lightweight Tempest ( a coupe called "Pontiac Strikes Again").
The Tempest became the car of choice for my father and was raced for several years. The Tempest was powered by a 1958 370 cubic inch Pontiac engine with Ram Air IV heads and a Warrior tunnel ram, 4-speed Liberty gearbox and Dana 60 with 5.38 gears. My father generally powershifted the combination to 6.50's @ 105m.p.h.at the 1/8-mile facilities.
The Tempest was candyapplered and had "Pontiac Strikes Again" hand painted on the front fenders in gold and black. It had an early prostock hoodscoop and ran Cragar lightweight racing wheels.
Hopefully I can track down someone that had taken photographs from either of these tracks. I had heard a member of this website, (Bob Fink?) worked at Pevely and had several pictures. Pevely was the track of choice for my father.
Thank you,
Jeff Redhage
