Following his win in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix Sunday Carl Edwards performed his signature back flip. Then he did something totally unexpected. Edwards grabbed the checkered flag and darted through a gate in the catchfence celebrating with the fans.I don't know who was more shocked - the race fans who quickly mobbed Edwards, or the security detail who had to get him back into the infield,Talk about saluting the fans. That was a pretty classy move on Carl Edwards' part. wasnt it. What is your take on his celebrating with the fans

He did the same thing after his Nationwide win Saturday. It is his effort to endear himself, once again, to the fans he has spent two years alienating. But that's just my take.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Well as testimony by my son to Carl's genuine appreciation of the fans at Darlington this year, my son Alex said Carl and one of the drivers of the Red Bull team were the only ones that stayed after the race, still in their drivers suit and signed autographs and spoke with the crowd. Whether Carl is trying to win back fans I don't know, but at least he's not hiding in a hole and too big to mingle with the common folks.

I couldn't agree more Johnny! Just another reason why I think he one of the nicest guys in the sport. When I see guys like Jr who grabs items and signs them while he's walking, not even looking or talking to fans...that's just pitiful. They're the reason he gets billions of $$$$ every year. One of my favorite storys about Carl is in 2008 before the Atlanta race (when it was still in October) That Friday, he went to the Aflac Children's center in ATL to visit with the kids and display his new Aflac car. Almost before it was time to leave, a young boy named Dalton came up and gave Carl a "friendship necklace". Every time kids had a cancer treatment, they would get one colored bead. Dalton's necklace was pretty full. Anyway, he gave it to Cousin Carl to wear during the Atlanta race as a "good luck charm". Well guess what, Edwards won the race. And during the victory lane celebration and pictures, he unzipped his suit and showed off his necklace. (he wore it under his firesuit during the race. Monday morning, Carl went back to Aflac to give Dalton his necklace back. He told Carl to keep it for the rest of the year and maybe win the Championship. While wearing it during the last 4 races, he won 3, everytime he showed off the necklace in victory lane. So that brought Edwards with 4 wins in the last 5 races. Anyway, that is my favorite Carl Edwards story and I'm sticking to it. That's the reason I think that Carl is one of the nicest men out there!-Cody
