This information was distributed to the AIRPS family and I wanted to share with our friends at RacersReunion just incase you are not on the e-mail distributiion.Hello Everyone! Our annual fund raiser, the Augusta Vintage Nationals, is a little over six weeks away and things are happening that will produce a very exciting event in support of the "5Wkids Outdoor Learning Area" being developed in Motorsports Memorial Plaza at Diamond Lakes Regional Park. If you have visited in the past please make plans on September 12th to attend this years expanded activities. If you have not yet made the event please mark your calendar for a day of fun activities.Rex White has been chosen as this years "Racing Through History" guest of honor. Rex has attended all previous five events and is a real supporter of non-profit activities of the Augusta International Raceway Preservation Society (AIRPS). Our friends at RacersReunion.com will head up the drivers reunion portion of the event and are making plans to have a one and only print produced of Rex and the Augusta International Raceway Memorial. This print will be auctioned and a portion of the proceeds will be used to expand the "5Wkids Outdoor Learning Area" next to the former pit lane at the Augusta International Raceway that is being developed into Diamond Lakes Regional Park. Rex usually makes the trip over from Atlanta in the Atlanta Motor Speedway pace car so keep your fingers crossed. Other former NASCAR, NHRA and USRRC greats will also be in attendance and the Augusta International Raceway Preservation Society (AIRPS) will induct this years members of the Augusta International Speedway "Hall of Fame".The car show portion of the event will be special this year with the "Best of Show" winner receiving a reproduction of the "Augusta 510" trophy that Glenn "Fireball" Roberts took home as winner of that event on November 17, 1963 at the track. "Fireball" and other drivers pitted just behind the current memorial location and raced just a few feet in front of the memorial so plan to relive racing history and have your photograph taken at this historic motor racing location. In addition to the outside activities involving the car show you will be able to see historic racing cars on display as well as food and memorabilia vendors. And, make plans to attend indoor activities in the 60,000 square foot Diamond Lakes Community Center. This huge building features air conditioned facilities with modern rest rooms along with a gymnasium full of information booths for your day of activities. Neither hot weather nor a little rain can slow down this event with these indoor facilities. This event is free to the public with a $20 donation requested from car show entries. Vintage Race Cars for display are not required to pay the $20. Hours are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.Directions to the event and suggestions for hotels and additional information can be found at the event web site:
