I am probably the only race fan in the country irritated by this (my wife says too much irritates me these days), but here goes.

Evey single announcer for every single network, just before a green-white-checkers restart, declares, "Hold on race fans, here comes a thrilling THREE lap shootout for the win!"

Sorry Mr. & Mrs. Announcer, but there is 1 lap between the green flag and the white flag. There is 1 lap between the white flag and the checkered flag.

You youngsters will have to tell me if you add it up differently using that "New Math," but when I went to school, one plus one equaled two.

So, darn it announcers - it's a TWO lap shootout. Please stop saying three.

Am I beginning to sound like Andy Rooney?

I happen to have several of Andy's old hard covered books that belonged to my dad. They are made up of his newspaper columns, but I loved his commentaries.

lol.....Dave I had thought the same thing.. I hate it when paid announcers say dumb things. My son and I was watching a basketball game that was tied at 76-76 late in the game and the nitwit on the mic said " this is the closest the game has been since it was nothing to nothing"......

When Junior Johnson released Darel Dieringer as his driver following the September 1967 Martinsville race, Junior was quoted as saying it was because, "He can't push the button." I have never forgotten that quote and wish Junior had displayed a little better PR skills at the time.

As a fan of Darel's, your response above reminded me how much Junior's quote infuriated me at the time.

Funny thing, after we met Darel in 1981, my wife just adored him. We'd invite up to our hospitality suites where he kept everybody in stitches. When he was in his final days he used to stop by my Charlotte office every morning for a cup of coffee.

Interesting how a statement can trigger a thought. Darel was a really nice fellow to have around and I am glad you made me think of him.

Lucky dog got it Jim. then it got the wave around after the move over flag was displayed. so you see the lap three was really up front all the time---------------------- right??

It might also have got caught in the pits while the pits were closed or have been penalized for speeding or passing on the right... or is that on the left?
