Mike Stefanik is a heck of a nice guy and a FAST racer.

When Richmond brought back the NASCAR Modifieds in 1990, Mike came south with the Winston Modified Tour and helped us promote our event. A racer never had a bigger smile or was any friendlier. Mike was just 31years old when he raced with us the first time and he qualified a fast 3rd in time trials before engine failure ruined his day. The photo below was taken the very next week by Howie Hodge when Mike won Stafford Springs, Connecticut's famed Spring Sizzler. Just look at that smile:

When Mike returned to Richmond in 1991 for our two Modified races, he sat on the pole for one and won the other. He was a quick study!

He also won our big modified show in 1993 and 1997 and also posted a second and two 4th places in other Modified Tour races at our Richmond layout. All told in Richmond's 8 Winston Modified Tour and Featherlite Modified Series races between 1990-2002, Mike Stefanik had 3 wins and 6 top-5 finishes. He was/is a racer's racer.

He may be two decades removed from the first time I saw him at Richmond, and the 1990s mustache of his youth may be gone, but at age 55 Mike Stefanik has proved once again that he's still got it! Hooray for the old guys!
