Nickell leaving Speed cable channel at end of month

Hunter Nickell, president of Charlotte-based Speed cable network since 2005, will leave the Fox Sports Media Group company at the end of the month.

"I have had a blast," Nickell said in a statement Monday announcing his resignation.Nickell said he would explore other opportunities with Fox Sports.

Nickell, a Detroit native, led Speed through a significant expansion in motorsports coverage. During his tenure, the network added about 16 million households. Speed now reaches 84 million homes in North America and has outlets on television providers worldwide.

Under Nickell, Speed moved in 2008 to a new headquarters in University City and has more than doubled its staffing, from 60 to about 130. Mark Washburn

They certainly have plenty of "wind" on hand at SPEED (and FOX) to keep the Tunnel show going if Dave is promoted. I first met Dave years ago at Talladega when CBS had screwed him over by not having a room for him after he had ridden in on his cycle to assist with their broadcast. My Wrangler assistant program mgr. Mel Parkhurst, an old AMA cycle guy himself, scrambled up a room for Dave.
