Hold on tight to your scanners and 14-inch coolers -- Speedweeks 2012 is here. The track opens the gates to competitors on Tuesday, then race fans will get their first blast of stock car action when ARCA holds a four-hour practice beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars take to the track Friday night.
Fast Friday
Friday will be busy with qualifying for ARCA's Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at 2 p.m. followed by two rounds of Budweiser Shootout practice at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Afterward, everybody heads to the Speed cable channel stage outside of Turn 4 at 8 p.m. to see which driver draws the pole position for Saturday's Shootout.
Super Saturday
There is a stock car doubleheader on Saturday. First, the "stars of tomorrow" battle in the ARCA Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at 4:30 p.m. Several big name race drivers have used this race as a career launch pad, including Benny Parsons, Kyle Petty and most recently Danica Patrick. That night, the Budweiser Shootout rolls at 8:10.
Pole Sunday
Race fans can get a bit more excited about Daytona 500 pole qualifying at 1:05 cause speeds will be up from last year. With a new rules package in place, speeds are expected to top 195 mph. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will attempt to defend his 2011 pole position. This is a critical day for the "go or go home" drivers.
