I am definitely getting left in the dust. I don't know what Cloud technology is, but Daytona announced yesterday they are using it (head in the clouds, maybe? ) to keep folks informed.

Now comes another Daytona announcement of earth shattering proportions. I gotta buy a program to keep up with all the honorary officials. These are new titles for me. There seem to be more than there used to be.

UFC Superstar Jon Bones Jones Named Honorary Race Official For The 54th Annual Daytona 500

2/20/2012
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Bones Jones will serve as Honorary Race Official for the 54th annual Daytona 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, Feb. 26 at Daytona International Speedway (FOX, 1 p.m. ET).

As Honorary Race Official, Jones will be introduced at the drivers meeting, participate in pre-race ceremonies and ride in one of the honorary race official cars ahead of the 43-car field for the 200-lap, 500-mile historic race.

Jon Bones Jones is a huge star in mixed martial arts, Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. We are excited to welcome him to the World Center of Racing and have him be a part of the pre-race ceremonies for NASCARs biggest, richest and most prestigious race.

I am thrilled to be able to serve as Honorary Race Official at this year's Daytona 500, NASCAR's premier event, Jones said. Like the UFC, NASCAR has a passionate and knowledgeable fan base, and I am honored that I will get to share this experience with them."

Jones holds a career record of 15-1, which is comprised of eight knockouts and five submissions. He was named Most Dangerous Man at the 2011 Spike Guys Choice Awards and 2011 Fighter of the Year at the World MMA Awards.

In December 2011, the Endicott, N.Y. native capped off what many have hailed as the greatest year in MMA history with a submission against Lyoto Machida.

Earlier in the year, Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history at the age of 23 after he won all four of his fights and earned the Light Heavyweight title. With two more defeats of former champions later in 2011, Jones became the first fighter in UFC history to defeat three former champions in one year.

Jones entered the UFC in August 2008 after only four months of competing in professional fights.

Currently, Jones trains in Albuquerque, N.M. under legendary MMA coach Greg Jackson. On April 21 in Atlanta, Jones will take on his former champion training partner, Suga Rashad Evans, in one of the most anticipated UFC fights of the year.

I think we should see if we can't get our own Tim Leeming named an "Honorary Legend" and put him in a big ole Plymouth in the Daytona 500 parade of cars in front of the field. What do you think?

I'll second that nomination. And I'll submit a new nomination for me: Honorary Shotgun Plymouth Rider with The Most Honorable Tim Leeming who shall serve as the Honorary Legend.

Do the two of you promise to behave if you are allowed to ride together?!

As purely honorary positions, I honestly can't say we'd act most honorably. But on my honor, I'll pledge to pay a nominal honorarium if we don't act honorably (but only if we get caught).

Wait. If you call within the next 15 minutes, you'll get this added bonus FREE!

Mitt Romney to make appearance at Daytona 500. I guess he'll be appearing as the Nominee Honoree.

http://www.news-journalonline.com/breakingnews/2012/02/romney-delay...

Romney's campaign planned to be in town Friday for a fundraising reception hosted by International Speedway Corp. CEO Lesa France Kennedy, but Tuesday's primary in Michigan -- where Romney's father was a three-term governor in the 1960s -- is too close for him to get away. Polls show a surprisingly tough race between Romney -- who won Michigan four years ago against John McCain -- and Rick Santorum.

"They're going to reschedule it because he's so hard-pressed in Michigan," said Don Kane, a volunteer in the local campaign effort.

Instead of a fundraiser, Romney will come for a quick visit Sunday on the morning of the 500, Kane said. Speedway officials said formal plans weren't in place yet.

I am rather insulted that I am, along with TMC, the only two folks who ever saw a NASCAR race who are not included in some honorary capacity for the Daytona 500. Sometimes it sucks to be The Legend!!!!!!

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Wait, Legend...... I hate to publicly correct you (as you did me on RTH last night, lol), BUT - NONE of those other folks who have "earned" the Honorary positions at the "World Center of Speed" for the "Great American Race" have ever seen a Daytona 500. Correct me again, now, if I am wrong.

You & TMC can be somewhat comforted by the fact that it is your knowledge and zealous dedication to preserving the history of stock car racing that precludes either of you gaining the notoriety of an "Honorary" position at Daytona.

Just remember that you both have honored places with we "true believers" here at this forum.
