Tuesday night, the radio show "Racin' The Way It Was" was honored to have Bobby Allison as a guest for almost 45 minutes. At the end of the time with Bobby, as I am prone to do, I made some rather personal comments to Bobby. Before the show was over I had received an e-mail from one party and a text from another. In essence, the contents were:

TEXT MESSAGE: Love the way you talk with these great drivers honoring them with your memories and feelings. Keep up the good work.

E-MAIL: Expressing your personal feelings and preferences as a host on a radio talk show is unprofessional and uncalled for. While I enjoy the show, your emotional sidebars are not necessary.

I am what I am. I am a race fan from a long time back. I have very personal feelings about the history, the men and women associated with it and such things just come out of me when I'm talking with these guys. Our show has had some of the greats on with us and what I say comes from the heart.

All of you who listen to the show, let me know what you think. Those of you who don't listen, give it a shot next Tuesday but think about this; if you had a chance to express your deep admiration and appreciation to someone who has been such a part of your life, would you do it? Would you do it for all the world to hear? I probably won't change, because that's just who I am. But I respect your opinions, at least most of you.

Thanks,

Tim

Opinions are what makes for good content . Smart remarks are what makes debates happen . Jealous people are the ones who send these arrogant messages. They are only wishing they could enjoy the real life that you have both in your past and present. Our personal venue is a matter of tastes, given that thought with Bobby you only expressed the way things were back then but if they didnt catch it I heard your opinion had changed after a decade had passed, isnt that how life is?? They had a catch there that they thought would maybe foul you up or knock you off track but evidently they underestimate you. You and I thrive on people making comment in text or in person because it is second nature to debate on a subject you know as well if not better than they do. I would venture to say this person did not catch the whole audio of what was said to bring up the last tidbit of admiration you have for racing and of Bobby or anyone else thats a prior driver much less a champion..You see I drove against you back in the day and I think I can safely say you have gotten a little older and wiser but your drive is the same as it was in the 60's. We discussed things back then at length and if the tape doesnt lie we did it again in front of the camera. So big boy you blow your horn and toot your whistle because the majority of the folks on Racers Reunion enjoy our shows and I think we put a smile on their faces and a happy thought in their hearts. we are about not today but -------------------------------------------------------memories

I found this site and the radio show only a month ago, and I can't get enough. The interview with Bobby Allison was priceless. I don't see where the criticism is coming from. I very much appreciate all your interviewing styles...a group of friends kickin back and talking about what they love. I guess I missed "uncalled for" remarks because nothing came across to me as out-of-line at all. I don't want to demean anyone else's opinion, I just disagree.I guess when you're out there in front of people, you're going to catch some flack out of left field every so often. If someone doesn't like it, they can go start their own show I suppose.Keep up the great work, guys. The shows just get better and better!

A very wise person told...a long time ago..."When you get your head above the crowd, people are going to take shots at you". I hope you find that as comforting as I did at the time. You did nothing out of line in my book...and I think Bobby very clearly enjoyed it. Personally, I have not appreciated some of the interviews others have conducted with him that continually keyed on the tragedy in his life. I purposely stayed away from that. I realize some consider dragging out the good and bad is the best in journalism...but I just wanted him to have a good time. I think he did.Oh...and I bet I can guess who the negative text came from...with only one try.We became the number 1 Sports Talk Radio Station for a reason. I ain't about to change. I know...ye ain't sposed te say ain't...but I do.

Pay the ones who have nothing to do but criticise what someone else does. Number two just be yourself and do what you do best talk. Number three I for one am assured that Bobby was pleased as was 99.99 % of the listening members. Keep it going as you are and keep it real , compasionate , truthful and dont worry about anything else history is what this show is about.

That is one of the main attractions to this site as I see it. It brings personal feelings, from the past or present, that the individual cares about. If you have no personal appeal to the listener, it is just another "scripted" show. Everyone has opinions and should be free to express them. It is up to each individual to determine if they agree or not. If we did not want anything personal, we could just look in record books.

Tim, no way were your comments disrespectful to Bobby Allison. He certainly didn't view them that way and enjoyed the exchange from what I heard. You know, anyone who is a race fan knew what you meant. Anyone who ever cheered on a driver knew what you meant. All of us have a favorite driver who got beat by one of those pesky other drivers once in a while.Unprofessional and uncalled for??? NOPE!! Keep doin' what you do, Tim.Pete

Tim,I listened to Racer's Reunion Radio for the first time this week and enjoyed it thoroughly. I was at the RR Hall of Fame induction the first time that you talked with Bobby about your past feelings and I think that he received your comments just as they were intended both times, heart felt and honest and taken as a way of showing respect and honor. Some times I think that fans forget that racers are fans too. Bobby even talked about the guys he looked up to. We all tend to take things personnel when it's our guy the comments are about but when viewed in context your comments were not out of line. As long time racers we all came up thinking of all drivers as competition, someone you had to beat to win. Hey, he may be famous but he puts his pants on the same way we do, one leg at a time and if he is always beating our guy then we don't like it. While Dad was still racing Bobby was the competition. I did not like the Big Boys always showing up at our events (Late Model Sportsman or Grand American) and winnig our events and taking our purses. I did not like it when he beat us, I respected him, but did not always like him. I asked Dad one time why it never seemed to bother him and his reply was "To be the best, you have to beat the best". And it was sweet when we did beat them. Bobby has always been a racer, a competitor, and I think he understood your comments completely and even found a little humor in it. He knows how fans are about their guy and how we all are fans of the sport. He is one too. Hey, now that we don't have to beat him to win, I'm a Bobby Allison fan too.
