Capitol Raceway closed Saturday night after a great season. At the beginning of the year we had to make changes to the management. I went up to the track after almost 20 years and found it to be in disrepair, bumpy, terrible starting line and many, many other things in disrepair. It was really embarassing to see the old girl in such a state.
We were able to get a new team of promotors in to manage the track. John Crane and BJ Herrel worked together to get the place into shape and we made major changes to fix the track surface and facilities. Throughout the year the racers started to return and the crowds got better and better.
We got Penhall to come in and laser the track to make it straight and level. We were able to get some tires from our old friend Dickie Gore, at Old Dominion Speedway, and we dreagged the track with over 200 tires for over a week to lay down a good base to work from for the surface. The starting line was repaired and we had some really fast cars there that can attest to the super traction and starting line.
As we moved towards the end of the season, we found new promotors for 2013 season with Jamie Manning and Jimmie Bradshaw decideing to form a new team to direct the efforts of Capitol Raceway for the coming year.
I am happy to say that our team of dedicated individuals that work at the track each week have performed to a very high level this year, working to not only improve the track and its operations but also to take time to work with racers and listen to their thoughts and ideas for improvements. Our racers are our lifeline tomaking a good track operate to provide the best racing and our employees are our means to make this all possible.
Mike (Maiatico) and I started our this year to restore the track to a place where we could be proud of the racetrack and its people. We are happy to say that I beleive we have come a long way this year with the people we have around us to make this happen.
We look forward to the 2013 season when we will be able to continue to improve our facility and build upon this year's success. The racers made it happen.
