I wish it still inspired the excitement and anticipation for me it once did. That is quite a picture of Buck and that 1958 Chevrolet. Great memories.

It is already very obvious that when this thread reaches the day of the race, we are going to have some excellent pictorial history of the sport. Good going Jerry!!!!

Since no car photo showed up on Jerry's post, here's Lennie Pond with a Jim Testa ride. Our RR member, William Horrell may have done the body work:

With William involved and Burger King as the sponsor, I wonder if Pond and Testa said to him about the body work "OK William, you can... "

R.I.P., H.B.

"Our sport was built by people like H.B. Bailey," said Richard Petty, who raced alongside him for years. "We all did things the same way in those days - we drove ourselves to the race track, we worked hard when we got there, we raced hard and then we drove home. H.B. was a racer through and through, and the sport is better off because he was a part of it. We will miss him."

Yes sir, H.B. was a great guy. We once had the sheet metal from the entire front of one of his cars after a wreck at Darlington. Loaded it on top of the motorhome, tied it down and took it home with his permission. He asked us at the next race what we did with it and we told him it was in my back yard, which it was. What memories.

Before Ricky Rudd drove his own #10 Tide Machine, the #10 had been driven in GN racing for a number of years by Ricky's uncle, Bill Champion:

Ricky would make his first Cup start in 1975 at Rockingham, driving the Bill Champion owned #10.

Cotton Owens has poor-night vision and won this rain-delayed night race.

There's been all sorts of non-traditional car numbers used around the country at various tracks, especially the local weekly tracks, including dollar mark and cent mark cars. Even cars with fractions have been used. With less than two days to go, but still more than one 'til the 2014 Daytona 500, how about using a little imagination for a car number pairing? RR member, Bill McPeek has submitted a 1-5/8th pairing for our perusal.

The New Jersey photo below, taken at either Wall Stadium or Flemington, shows the nearly obscured Ralph Carlsen #98 sandwiched by car #1 and car #5/8, a 1-5/8th sandwich!

The 1-5/8th sandwich photo is really special to Bill McPeek because he at one time owned another #98 that had been driven by Ralph Carlsen, chauffeur of the middle car above. See the writeup below:
