A very full track to have 33 cars on a one-third mile.

But 1/3 of the field wasparked by Lap 8 (2 cars didn't even start). A lot of thesmall teams (drivers)had to do this back in the Day to make ends meet. Collect "Baloney money" & save the car at the smaller races to get to the bigger races where there was bigger payouts.

Dennis, love your coverage of the Grand Touring (Grand American) races here!!

The series never got the coverage & exposure it deserved!!

Please keep it up. They are most appreciated!!

By the way, I'm hoping one day to see a color photo or description of colors of a "Holy Grail" car of mine.... the Cougar that Lil' Bud Moore drove during the 1st few races of the '68 season.

Hoping one day to ask Lil' Bud, but don't know how to contact him..... Thanks!

Looks like mechanic Dewey Livengood turned driver for 1 lap before the "steering" went out. Collected $200 though, while teammate Ken Rush had to run 295 laps to collect his $640!

It shows Jimmy Vaughn as finishing both 7th & 11th. in two different car numbers. Did a driver switch cars or was there two guys with same name. Interesting????

Sorry it's not in color but it's the best I got of the Lil' Bud Moore Cougar.

As best I remember it was a pale, creamy yellow.

Bill, That is most likely a misprint. Jimmy Vaughn usually drove the #7 and Jim Vandiver the #3 in 1969.

Thanks Dennis for the the photo !! (I had seen this one before on Getty Images).

I have newspaper accounts that this car was indeed built by "Big Bud" Moore.

Does anyone remember the lettering colors on this car.

As for the sponsor on the car....

The Barbecue King Company, the original smokehouse in Greenville, SC.
Invented in 1954 by R.G. Wilson, founder of the original revolving oven.

Bud later drove a Camaro in the Grand Touring Series (car #1 as well) with the same sponsor that was dark colored. Looked very much like the A.J. King Charger he drove in Grand National Races.

THANKS AGAIN!

I remember the #1 being red outlined in black. It really stood out on the pale yellow almost cream color body. Dad has always said that this was originally a Bud Moore Cougar.

Check out the Ronnie Hopkins Chevelle that Jack Walker just posted on the Paul "Little" Bud Moore fan page here on Racers Reunion. That is real close to the color I remember the Cougar being.
