Jim Paschal, veteran Grand National driver who has found new life in the NASCAR Grand Touring division, has won the Northern Tour Championship, a five race circuit that ended Sunday, August 31 at Thompson, Conn.

Paschal accumulated 240 points in a special point fund to edge the Grand Touring Division seasonal point leader, Ken Rush, by six points.

Paschal won only one of the five races in his 1969 Javelin but finished second at Milton, Vt.; third at Stafford Springs, Conn.; fourth at Holland, N.Y. and fifth at Thompson, Conn..

Frank Sessoms was third on the Northern Tour point race with 216 and Charlie Blanton and Tiny Lund tied for fourth with 210 points each. Paschal won $1,000 of a $10,000 special fund.

While Rush finished second to Paschal in the Northern Tour points he still managed to increase his lead over Frank Sessoms and Buck Baker in the battle for the GT championship. Following the tour Rush has 1,393 points for a lead of 34 over Sessoms. Sessoms has 1359 points and Baker has 1311.

Seems Hamilton's win didn't merit mention in most newspapers - at least the ones I was able to check on-line.

However, the Gadsden Times did reference Pete's back to back wins at Stafford and Thompson in its September 9th notes column.
