This I point at no one in particular but everyone who ever sat behind of the wheel of a Racecar-Hotrod or street car, you all thought of it once or more as many have. Whether you were a Straightliner or one that played in the dirt or even on the roadcourse, you sat behind the wheel and maybe not closed your eyes but day dreamed of being in the exact same spot that Trevor was Sunday, defending his position to win the Daytona 500 as he sogracefully did.
Take Tim leeming for example or Tommie Clinard, both were great drivers in their era ,but they dreamed of winning the famous race one time. Now after many years I wish I could give that win back to Tim in savannah ga that I robbed him of by inches or feet, but the end was not to be his.
The feeling of winning whether it is at a local jalopy race or in the foothills of Tennesse in a yellow chevy #52 or the quater mile heads up final at the local airport turned into a drag strip, the true feeling you dont know till you achieve it.
Ask Billy Biscoe or The great Sam Ard or even Robbie Solesbee(his was in go karts).
The great Pkl Spells it out every time she puts it in print--THE THRILL OF VICTORY.
Sunday I can almost guarentee there were mnore older seasoned racers shouting for Trevor than ever before. The Woods Brothers and crew looked almost 30 years younger on the stage, thats what the thrill of winning does to you young or old. I remember the last race I won while my father was still alive and he was as thrilled as I was and it was a little ole half mile track in Mississippi.
No matter where or who it is the first one is almost the best but the last you remember just as well.
Tim and myself we still bench race each other very hard, maybe a little harder now tha n back then but we remember----------------------------------------------------memories
