RR member, Bill Rynd is 76 years old. He resides in Lakeland, Florida and for kicks he races his midget in vintage events staged by DAARA - the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association. The good friend of another RR member, Bill McPeek, is well liked and has been very successful on the track.

Last October (2013) , Bill was racing at Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston, Florida when he got into some slick mud coming out of turn 2 and slid toward the infield. That's where he hit a huge tractor tire and went airborne.

Bill suffered cuts, scrapes, a broken left shoulder and a concussion as a result of the crash. That would be sufficient for many youngsters to hang up their helmet. Not Bill Rynd, though. Here's Bill McPeek's personal update on Bill Rynd's recovery:

"I went to the Vintage Winter Nationals at Auburndale Speedway this past weekend and my good friend and fellow RR member Bill Rynd was there and drove his car for the first time since his nasty accident at Hendry Co. Speedway in early Oct. last year.

"He was his old usual self and went to the front at the flag drop. Drove a couple fantastic races and was as hard to catch as always. Here's a few pics and he was lucky to only get a concussion, broken shoulder and some minor cuts. An old school Tough guy, it was great to see him again."

While we celebrate all the youngsters like the Chases, Kyles, Austins and numerous others coming into our sport, let's step back and recognize one of our own.

Hats off to RR member, Bill Rynd - a tough ole cookie and successful old school racer!
