July 30, 1966: Two racing but winless legends make their GN debut

Stock Car Racing History

OK, that makes sense because the race Hutch won was at a different time of year. It was a good track to be a Petty at. Shame they don't at least have the trucks run there because it's one of the best, if not the best, high speed short track in the country.

Petty did not win four in a row. He swept 64, Hutch won 65(1), and Richard took 65(2), 66, and 67. 66 and 67 had only one race each. Not only did he win those, but Petty Enterprises own Jim Paschal took 62 and 63!

February 5, 1950 - Harold Kite soars to victory in Daytona

Stock Car Racing History

J.C. Van Landingham was a local racing veteran and actually came out of retirement to run this as his name was large enough to be an attendance boom. I saw this in some edition of the Daytona paper.

The only NASCAR race held in Brevard County. Nevertheless, some drivers who were frequent runners at the long-defunct Eau Gallie Speedway in Melbourne included Stan Kross, Dick Joslin, and current Congressman Bill Posey.

At Savannah, they had a "oops we blew it" ceremony for Wendell, which might also be a factor.

One fact missing here: that Jack Smith [supposedly] retired because Wendell had won the race.

To add insult to Tiny's DNF, this race was on his birthday! So he started last, took the lead, dominated, and broke a distributor shaft while leading, on his 36th birthday.

Chase,

There was no Convertible circuit in 1955. However, it is possible that the Oct. 22 race was rained out or a Short Track Division race.
