The winning ticket DID put Shallotte on the map...I went to Daytona (for the Legend's Parade) and while checking in to the H-I Express, the attendant apologized for "misspelling my address" assuming it was "Charlotte, NC" I replied: "No, it's correct, it's where the lottery was won...." "OH, right!" he said.
That does look correct. It's one of those tracks that few remember where the track actually was. Not many local residents even knew the community had a race track. All evidence always pointed to the intersection of 41 and SC 527...although no evidence remained...except the former kart track. Thanks for the photo, Eric.
Eric, I was referring to Billy's photo. Your photo looks like the old Cooper River Speedway near Charleston.
I have walked that particular site....it appears to have been a Kart track.
Black River Speedway remains a mystery. The track that's visible now, was a kart track, and not the original speedway.
I saw the King win several times beginning with the 1963 "Rebel 300":, and saw Jeff win at Rockingham in 1998. I became aJeff Gordon fan after watching his success in ESPN's "Thursday Night Thunder:" series at IRP in the late '80's. I was alsoa DuPont paint jobber, and received Jeff Gordon promo items before he ever ran his first Cup event. Been a Gordon fan ever since.

Dave, I'm sure the oil is pumped in the shop at all Hendrick dealerships, as all Hendrick body shops sprayed DuPont paint all those years. What's not so clear .....what oil is/was REALLY utilized by the race engines, regardless of adorning stickers? Like everything else, engine oil has become a technical component............ always wondered if Quaker State was really in the race cars.
