Tim has verified what I had come to suspect, over the years. Anyway, in my vintage car, I have the same thing a little red indicator light, right on the dash that's 'on' when the ignition switch is 'on'. There were usually other ex-Petty cars in a typical early '60's field (Thomas Cox, Doug Yates, 'little' Bud Moore in Louis Weatherbee's #45) and they were easily identified by the glowing red light.
Tim I'm sure my parents attended this April event......At the June (1962 GN race) I remember Jack Smith's #47 Pontiac sounding louder than everybody else (or at least it did to me), Little Joe Weatherly 'throwing' his car (#8 Bud Moore Pontiac) into the first turn with a slide that he began just past the flag-stand, the Petty cars had a little 'red' light on the dash that was 'on' while the car was running, an Army sargent named George Green driving a '60 Chevrolet #1.........it's funny, the stuff that's remembered.
I dunno.........last year at Indy, Brad was all over the radio about Jimmie Johnson's rear end "moving". NASCAR, eventually disallowed the trick suspensions although later than sooner. While failing to initially make a call on the Johnson situation, the entire subject was declared off limits. The persistence of the Penske team in this forbidden zone does give credibility to NASCAR's current ruling.
