If you could race against someone who would that someone be?

General

Sam Ard. The toughest, most determined driver I've ever seen.

Kesselowski Fined

General

Let's see, an under-hood component that can't be seen, on cars that don't exist, is a dead-ringer to attract the modern, yet, reluctant ('cause the car's just don't relate to 'real' ones) fan. Hoo-ray! Racing is saved!

Shelby Fairgrounds Speedway...or Cleveland County Fairgrounds Speedway

Stock Car Racing History

Fans usually call a race track by the name of the town of its location, for example, "Rockingham" (until the present Andy Hillenberg era) was never the track's name. The Rock's official title was "North Carolina Motor Speedway". Probably, Clevland County has always been the official name of the facility, but "Shelby" became the name of choice.

Vets helped to create stock car racing

General

A WWII-bombing-mission-shrapnel incident resulted in a permanent limp and the use a specially fabricated clutch pedal for Red Byron in those Red Vogt/Raymond Parks '39 Fords.

Jack Duffy: The Last Coupe in Daytona

General

That's the race, JM.....The coupe was flying. Had he not run out of gas, Duffy would likely have won the race. He had passed eventual winner, Bobby Allison, with ease. Duffy and Paul Newman made contact, with Newman getting the worse end of it.

Jack Duffy: The Last Coupe in Daytona

General

Racing Through History's GHOST TRACKS will feature legendary racer, Jack Duffy, 80 years young and still racing. Jack began his driving career in 1950 and is still going strong. Among other notable accomplishments, Jack '37 Chevy coupe was, literally, the last coupe to ever race at Daytona. This story was chronicled in a 1974 issue of Stock Car Racing magazine, and by this Howard O'Reilly photo. Be sure and tune in to this Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM right here on Racers Reunion.com

You won't see Jimmie Johnson at Hometown Raceway, USA

General

Dave, your are correct. The James Upchurch and family own and operate County Line Raceway. The Upchurch family lives around the race track, in fact, the driveway to the speedway runs right between two of their houses/yards. Beautiful.

You won't see Jimmie Johnson at Hometown Raceway, USA

General

Jim, on a positive note, County Line Raceway, Elm City, NC hosted a mega-event this past weekend (Nov 5th) for the open wheel mod cars and steel-head late models, with $4000.00-to-win in each class. There were 60 some pre-entries for the open wheels and 35 steel heads. KEN SCHRADER won the modified event. In this age of jet-setting cup drivers, Schrader's presence at tiny Coutny Line Raceway (the track is literally in its owner's back yard) was a heartwarming throwback to an earlier era. His victory was just icing on the cake.
