A week later, Bonnett finished 2nd in his #5 Stacy Dodge in the inaugural Winston West race at Phoenix to "teammate" Cale Yarborough. He raced a #6 Stacy Charger. I've searched unsuccessfully for a photo of the car. I assume it matched Neil's car except for the number. Cale and Neil were the only two cars to finish on the lead lap.
No, you didn't just do that. No, you just didn't say this was your 1st race w/a camera. Because if you did, it was actually 2x the years removed from my oldest kid's age. Haha. AND it was about 7 months or so removed from my 1st Cup race - though I did attend many late model races at Nashville Speedway between 1974 and 1978.

DOH! You may be right. Searched for 'daytona permatex 200' and went with it. Rats, that's a shame too. Up until now, I've been 100% correct. I once thought I was mistaken, but I was wrong. Haha
I realize this thread is SUPPOSED to be about Bobby Allison's win in the 1978 Ontario race. But it seems to have jumped a fire line to the 74 Permatex 200 modified race. Haha. Can't help myself - once the chatter started, I feel obliged to keep it going. Found this neat footage from the race.

Maynard Troyer was on the pole driving a 1974 Mustang II with a speed of 110.776 MPH. Ray Hendrick was outside in a full bodied '69 Camaro at 110.432 MPH. Paul Newman, the Actor, driving a Hop Harrington Pinto was in the race and this was the early stage of his career as a racer.
