Our Schaefer Hall of Fame is a diverse group of folks. We live in multiple states. We have some normal size white guys. We inducted "Cuba" a couple of years ago as our Hispanic representative. And I represent the short, fat guy demographic.
In 2012, we brought in 2 much needed aspects to our Hall: youth and female. Kuzzin Kari's knowledge of racing isn't very deep. But she shows up every year to our 600 Schaefer Schelebration, brings new friends just about every year, and embraces the Schaefer experience. Though she prefers to live in the "now" of racing vs. learn the history, she takes full advantage of the perks of the "now". She regularly sends me photos taken from her hot pass perspective - pit road, garage area, driver intros, etc. When she was inducted, I jokingly told her it was about durn time we added some breasts to offset all us boobs.
Today is Kari's birthday. To recognize it, I went off the ranch a bit and blogged about a race OTHER than a Petty win. Because Kari is originally from New Jersey, I chose to focus on the final GN race held at Morristown Speedway on July 15, 1955. Tim Flock won the pole AND the race. Lee Petty finished 2nd, and Bob Welborn finished 3rd in Julian Petty's Chevy.
Flock led the majority of the race - but was on the outside looking in as Junior Johnson took over and was seemingly headed for the win. But then, fate broke Flock's way with a few laps to go.

And to add to the linkage of the two, here is Billy Wade IN a Petty Plymouth.
1964 Volunteer 500. Wade's Ford lost an engine. When Jim Paschal needed relief help, Wade was summoned to take over. Billy raced the car the 2nd half of the race, and he earned a 3rd place finish for the Petty team.
Tim - Cool story about Billy. Speaking of the combo of The King and Wade, here are a couple of shots from Nashville in 1964 featuring the two of them.
A couple of race reports highlighting the controversy surrounding the finish - particularly since the 2 parties involved were Wade and Jarrett. See - its not just Lee Petty who won a race or two with some drama and confusion!

Looks like Joe was out of the 33 car for a 5-race stretch following the spring Richmond race. Instead, Petree had Bobby Hamilton Jr, Wally Dallenbach Jr and Scott Pruett in the car. Looking into it, Nemechek was injured in a crash while testing at Dover.
