1956 was a wierd year for Turner. On Labor Day he won the Southern 500 Grand National, then he didn't drive another Grand National until the end of October. In between he drove Modified/Sportman for about 8 weeks.
johnny mallonee said: Being the happy person i am today over the good good news i was told i will tell yall the answer it was curtis turner --he was leading the race on lap 181 when there was an 18 car pileup behind him--all but him was out of the race so he was only finisher out of 24 starting and 19 running at lap 181 when the wreck happened
