Trivia Question

General

OK, I confess, Once upon a time I questioned why Mark Martin never won a championship so I did a little research and what I found was that the #6 did not show up on any of the cars I researched and so I accepted that the #6 was never on a championship car. End of story...not so fast. So this morning I got up because Icouldn't sleep and logged onto RR.com at 3:23 AM (see above time) and felt a need to post some trivia. Thinking back at the halfass research I did quite some time ago I posted the question without going back and confirming the facts.

The answer, so I thought, was #6, even toomuchcountry came up with the #6 but for the love of God and Country Bill Rexford and David Pearson did have the #6 on their cars, how I missed that I cannot explain and either can Donald Rumsford. So I humbly apologize for wasting your time, it was a blunder that I'm sure some won't soon forget. I guess that blows my chance of ever being a guest speaker on RR.com again. Wink!

Trivia Question

General

Infinity

In mathematics, "infinity" is often treated as if it were a number however, that is not the answer to the question, or is it. In mathematics there is always an answer but it may not be the answer you are looking for. Is the question really a question or is it any one number or is the question all the possibilities of how many number combinations that are possible that did not show on an championship car. Therefore, the possibilities are endless like in infinity So what is the right answer you ask. There seems to be correct answers given but is there? I believe you will find the answer to the question in the statement made by the great philosopher Donald Rumsfeld
[T]here are known knowns; there are things we know we know.
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns the ones we don't know we don't know.

Former United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

Trivia Question

General

Out of the digits 0-9 only one has never been on a car that won the championship in any combination, what number has never been on any NASCAR top Division starting with the Modified Division (1948), Strictly Stock Division (1949), Grand National (1950-1971), Winston Cup (1972-2003), Nextel Cup (2004-2007) or Sprint Cup (2008-Present) car that won a championship? What number is it?

Interesting topic and I don't know the answer but with Hendrick employing 500 people I can't imagine them not building their own chassis, that's a good size factory in any state.

Paul drove his heart out, good to see him win a big one and glad his dad made it through without passing out.

What Racing Souvenir(s) do you treasure the most?

General

It's ironic that those of you that lived it didn't save much and that's usually the case however, the children, grandchildren, and people like me that try and find some form of connection to the past hold these items in high regard. And maybe that's why I like collecting, because of that "Connection to the past".

I do have one other souvenir from the early years at Darlington Raceway, it's a silk scarf with images of stock cars, flagman, and fans on it, definitely post WWII era thinking behind it, the silk that is. Maybe I should contact the HOF and loan them a few items.

What Racing Souvenir(s) do you treasure the most?

I've been a collector of "things" ever since I was a kid starting with matchbox cars, bottle caps, and then beer cans. I went on a long drought before collecting anything until I started collecting NASCAR diecasts. Now I pretty much collect only rare items, mainly stock car related, and most of them sit in my closet until the day I have my own office where I can display them, none of which I have any real attachment too other than they are old and cool looking. Do they make me happy? No, they are just cool looking. I suppose I collect these things to bring me back to a simpler time, reflect on history, take me out of the here and now to relive the moments in my imagination.

My favorite item is a thick cotton rug of the Wood Bros. 1976 Mercury Montego with David Pearson embroidered signature. The item is unique in that I have never seen one before, it's nearly new, and I am a big Wood Bros. and David Pearson fan. I have many other cool items but that Wood Bros./Pearson rug is pretty cool. Where is a picture you ask? It's up in the closet with the rest of my "things" and will probably never see the light of day until my family
has an estate sale.

Here a a couple of other things, the flag was on Tony Stewart's limo when he won his first Cup, the second is a large advertising of a local race, though I do not know what track, state, etc.

What is your

favorite racing souvenir?

Jeff, there is a current monthly newspaper called "Life in the Fast Lane Racing News" and it covers pretty much all the local and adjoining states tracks. They charge $20 a year for a monthly issue, usually about 15 pages in length. I haven't ordered it yet, though I intend to because I still like to read when I have a quiet moment.

I think it's a good idea and very generous to think of those that do not use the internet. You could sell advertising spots in the paper to help offset the costs and hopefully you will break even. I think a quarterly issue would be good, semi-annually is too far in between, there's a lot happens in 6 months. For 4 issues a year I would be looking at $10-12 subscription fee per year.

And Jim Streeter is an exception to the rules, he's the "Internet Kid." I tried and tried to get my mother to use the internet and she just wouldn't do it. I have an older sister that STILL refuses to use the internet, there are plenty of people that just will not do it so a paper might be a good idea. Maybe you should speak more to your customers than us tech savvy gurus.
