is Jimmy Johnson as good as Dale Earnhardt?

General

I defintely agree with that analysis, Jeff. Very well put. Jeff Gilder said:
This one ought to bring em out...lol. I don't think it is possible...certainly not fair to try to compare drivers from different eras. But....given the playing field he is on....is he is as good compared to the rest of today's drivers as Dale was compared to the rest he competed with....probably so. Does that make sense,...? I don't think because he wins 4 straight that makes him better than Cale. Granted he will have a better record....but records are.... an have always been subjective.

I want to know what Jr. had been drinking at the time he said that. Sound as it was scripted from Rick Hendrick himself for Jr. to say that. As I have said many many times before. Jimmie is a great driver but only reason he has won presumably 4 championships in a row is because of that point system that was implemented when Winston left the sport. The day he can go out there and race without a spotter, without power steering, without cool suits, etc. etc. etc. and still win like he has been. Then he can be put up there with Richard Petty, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Dale Earnhardt, etc. I know he will never get the chance to do that but still. Todays Nascar is always finding ways to dumb down the accomplishments of our drivers of the past. Thats why I no longer watch the races today. They are the most boring races ever. And to call them races is stretching that. More like a Sunday ride around.

Bill Pittard Passes Away at 75 ...posted by Ray Lamm

That is sad news, Ray. Me and dad used to go to his shop in Swepsonville back in early 90's. He was a very nice guy and had nice people working for him. I will keep his family in my prayers.

Now if that aint perfect Paul I dont know what is. You have the ones I dont have and vice versa. Well now we have info from 1974-1981. It will undoubtable be more difficult as we go along. But holding out hope from what comes from Appalachian State. I asked Jeff if he would put up a page for the Modified records also. Since they are covered in those record books we have also. Im sure Nascar has lost those records also. Only sports organization in the world that gets rids of its records. Thats Nascar for you.

You aint kidding Paul. That would be a tall order to get every individual race run down. I guess we will have to be happy with what we find. And that is neat, that App. State has that. I had no idea. Maybe they will have some info. I think we are defintely headed in the right direction. Dont you have some of those record books, Paul? I have 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1982.

Hey Paul did you scroll on down to the next page there was 2 pages of info? The series had about 25-27 races that year. Didnt want you to think it only had about 15.

Got some more good news. Its very well possible I will know some info for 1974 and 1976 LMS seasons. Keep your fingers crossed. Im on the job to recover as much info as I can. Paul, I knew there were state championships that LMS had and track titles also but when I saw those records I felt what an amazing racing series. I have all that info for 1981 LMS season (final point standings) for state and local championships that I will post in a couple of days.
