Prayers Needed for Don Naman

Administrative

Don is one of the nicest guys in racing and like many others had the shaft given to them his employees and friends alike have nothing but good to say about him. I wish him the best and hope he gets well soon.

Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway Closes.

General

While I agree it's not fair that they can't run what tires they want, just think of all the money that Hoosier has stuffed in the pockets of WRG. Probably not on the books either. Does this sound familer it happens at tracks all over the country it's not ever in the competitors favor what happened to run what you brung as long as it's safe. Anybody remember seeing tires such as Sears, Atlas,Sinclair,Kelly, Herculesand a host of other tires running on the track at one time.

Fast Cars, Family and Fainting Goats

General

I agree with Dave but that series of stories would be short lived I'm afraid because not many of the drivers had the upbring that David had. His father has instilled the great respect of others and respect of his elders and that is simply not taught to children today. Not by many anyhow. When ken was racing he was the same way that David is. He was respectfull of all he met and hade a great demeanor about him and was a very good driver as many before him he just never got the great rides and lived his racing time as an independent. He never got the credit he deserved and was always the first one you could depend on in a tight situation. Now David seems to be following dads footsteps, maybe the old verbage of the nut don't fall far from the tree applies here.

Ingram's Grandson Arrested in Ransom Theft of Jack's Championship Mementos

General

Jack and Aline are two of the greatest people you could ever want to know. This is what our younger generation is getting into with the drugs and such. The only thing Jack ever stole was a few victories when his competitors wasn't paying attention to what they were doing or they looked in their rear view mirror and saw him a coming and got scared and got behind on their steering. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack and Aline in this time of sadness.

Those Show Car Drivers and Other Unsung Racing Folks

General

Thanks for sharing your story about Ricky men like him are few and far between. But back in the days there were no quote show cars if you seen a car at the local parts house or dealership it was the real thing. That is another thing that RJR started was a car that was built by the race team that represented the factory, Petty built the first full bodied race car for RJR it was a Plymouth Road Runner then Jr. built a Monte Carlo and it took off from there. I can remember T. Wayne showing up at the track with the first show car that was a frame, engine and a clear plexaglass that he drove Marilyn around the track before the race. So there is another buisness that is still thriving today thanks to RJR.

Bruton Smith the Race Driver? When? Where? Won auto races against Buck Baker and Joe Weatherly?

General

When he raced he had to win. Why you ask? So he didn't have to pay out the purse money he got to keep it. He also was the promoter so he did't have to out run the drivers with the race purse he got it. He had to only come up with money for second and farther back which was a paltery sum. In those days the winner recieved the lions share of the purse.
