That's cool Dave. That is an old Petty car. Still Petty Blue on the inside. Later in the 60's this car ran at the old Rockingham Speedway with "Fat" Cox behind the wheel in the Late Model class. Only change was orange paint on outside and still blue inside. I think he is a cousin to Thomas Cox.
The 6th place finisher at Richmond is listed as Harold Carmac. I wonder if that is the same Harold Carmac from Ramseur NC that ran at Rockingham and later built the modified Chevy coaches driven by James Sears at Rockingham, Sanford and Caraway? That's not a common name so it probably is the same man.
"knights of the roaring road" Love it!
A very difficult decision that can only be made by the family. I'm sure most all the racing fans here on RR will support their decision either way. I pray that the Lord will grant them wisdom and give them peace.
I remember seeing Roy run Late Model Sportsman. I pray God's blessings on his family during this time.
Billy, Reid once sold a Phaeton to buy a new race engine when they had run out of enough pieces to put one together. I think it was a 1935.
I am sad to report that Racers Reunion member and Gentleman Racer Reid Shaw has passed away.
Reid was at the first Southern 500 at Darlington with Buck Baker and was involved in racing for many years.
Reid owned cars that competed and won in Grand National, Late Model Sportsman, Grand Touring, Grand American and Grand National East. I'm sure there are more but I know these guys drove for Reid; Johnny Allen, Cale Yarborough, Darel Dieringer, Buren Skeen, Bryant Wallace, Boyd Adams, Tiny Lund, Wayne Andrews, Max Berrier and Mickey York.
Reid began helping dad with his late model dirt car in 1968. In 1969 they ran a Late Model Sportsman car and later that year the Grand Touring division with a couple of Bud Moore Cougars. They ran the Cougars in 1970 in Grand American and a Mustang in GA in 1971.
Please remember the Shaw family during this time.
Dave, Early on they allowed cars to run the same mag. wheels that the Trans-Am cars ran. You will see pictures of early Daytona races where the field was mixed with T-A and GT cars that ran steel wheels. As 1969 went on all the cars ran steel wheels.
