Question of the day for March 20, 2011. Subjective.

General

Smokey for sure -- they still trying to figure out some of his theories and motives to make a fast car faster. The man had talent beyond what todays mechanics and crewchiefs of today display. Sure they claim Chad to be the modern day Smokey --BUT-- no hat for Chad much less the cigar.

He is my pick because my first meetings with him when my dad would go by his shop were just awesome

You get on a horse from the left dont you??

Tim, I've seen pictures of the Ford/Winton race from 1901 where they ran counterclockwise on a horse track. I believe horses also raced the same direction. Maybe some tie to horse racing many, many years ago. Just a thought. Great question Tim!!

Question of the Day for March 19, 2011

I think Ole DW told Tim that if they went the other way the vortex would not work and you couldnt keep the clouds away from the track. I wonder if there is ever any thought put into that madness that Ole DW pouts off with. Tim once said he would like to help him with insights in politics and announcing

Let me explain...

General

As much as I love to debate with you on Racing I will commend you on this post. What the seasoned members on Racers Reunion do have in common are we all miss what WAS the best days of Nascar. Now we relive those days (as we did last weekend at Middle Ga Raceway) at tracks open and closed nitely here. Opinions are what keeps this site alive and jumping and a little technical thriller thrown in for good measure.

If you need a refresher course come to Columbia Speedway at their next reunion and you will see.

MGR Reunion

General

I think this will be the beginning of a long relationship with the track and the great folks in Byron Ga.

I had a ball and met people I havent saw in 30+ years. The track brought back so many great memories of racing in the past. I do believe everyone that came left with a smile on their face. Plenty of show cars were on hand and more than enough Vintage Race Cars to hold a great race.

The cruise in was especially rewarding to the area because I dont think one has ever been held to that magnitude.

All the different car clubs and drivers put their differences aside and every one just had a ball. A real working Liquor Still was present along with another that was donated to R/R by a SC Midlands member who passed away last year, this is a treasure to behold.

Bobby Allison was on hand along with Rex White and a ton of Ga drivers from the past--and present.

We should all thank Tim Thornton and Jeff Gilder for their dedication but not to forget the guys and gals behind the scene. And Jeff Smith Chevrolet is the greatest Sponsor too,I hope Jeff Smith and Love Chevrolet will long live as our Sponsors.

John Banks is going into a side Business

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

Last nite I heard that John Banks is going into a side business at MGR.

Talk has it that he is hauling a still down to MGR, can you imagine that? Last report was Tim Leeming had one in his back yard. All this new racing news about the old days have things going (back to the future) Style. Jeff was hanging out at the local Winery in Byron last nite so things are going to be great this weekend.

A bunch of old --or should I say seasoned drivers will be on hand to tell their own version of a race or two. You get Skinner and Duck talking you may have an award winning movie in the making, especially if Bob Moore and Charlie Burnette chime in. Dont leave out Francis Sullivan either because he has a couple of versions he can tell too.

Tommie Clinard will be on hand with his beauty Queen he snagged way down in Palm Beach a couple years ago.

Bobby Allison is known to tell a version or two of some of the old --Good Ole Days too.

Only thing I hope dont show up are those streakers on the hill across the street because it was sure a sight to see one time but not two.

The good times we had there are something that will never be forgotten. If you get around the bunch when they get wound up you will truly enjoy it.

Tim Thornton used to hang out in the trees and on the hill around the track watching some of the best, Now he owns the place. Without him none of this would be possible. And his two side kicks, Bunny and Larry went the full mile to make it happen.

That first day when we all met in Byron and I took Jeff and Tim Leeming out to see the track I saw a real twinkle in Jeffs eyes and Tim now has the feeling I have about the ole gal.

Afterwards we met with Bob Moore and the bunch and the race was formed. We went back to the track and relived a few important races. Bob told an interesting tale on a wreck and that driver that is supposed to be there.

Racing in Middle Ga has always had a strong following, from Camp Wheeler Drag Strip to the short tracks and MGR to the Super Speedway in Atlanta.

I imagine there will be quite a few batteries run down over the course of the festivities so come prepared. I hope to see each and every one of you at the Greatest Reunion held yet at Middle Ga Raceway. You are coming arent you??? Tell us you are coming by replying to this --------------------ok??!!!

EVERYONE watch out for Tim Tonite

Historic Speedways and Ghost Tracks

Im not sure but I think ole DW signed an extension with Fox Sports. I dont know for sure if Tim read the contract or not to clarify the particulars for DW. You see sometimes they dont exactly see eye to eye on some points,Racing in particular, so maybe Tim will be his jolly ole self tonite and everyone have a great time.

And everyone please come to the inaugural MIDDLE GA RACEWAY--- R E U N I O N . You will see things you wont believe, And no streaking this year either
