The Petty Caprice of 1979-80
Stock Car Racing History
Very Interesting History, Chase!!
I think it would've succeeded if it was built in Daytona near the track.....or if it had to have been in Charlotte, atleast make itnearthe actual track. Where the racefans travel to, not the business district.
Andrew, try contacting Mike Bell. He knows more about Georgia Racing History than anybody I know! He's in the process of writing three books and can tell you just about anything from any series that ran in Georgia from the beginning. Shoot him an email at mikegaracing@gmail.com He'd love to talk to you! Tell him that Cody sent ya!
Would love to see Coca-Cola be the presenting sponsor! Nothing more American than Coke and Stock Car Racing!!
I've been away for a while, but I see Johnny Mallonee already posted the series that my friend, Jimmy Mosteller founded, the Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Series. He was the Sr. National Vice President of the Cigar company. It was the largest dirt late model series of the time from 1990-2000. Jimmy had started working for Hav-A-Tampa in 1949, while announcing at local tracks across Georgia. Jimmy was "everybody's buddy" as he gave numerous drivers his cigars and they would put Hav-A-Tampa stickers on their cars. Here's a photo of Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member, Charlie Mincey circa 1951 after a win at the PeachBowl Speedway, driving his Cherokee Garage (same garage Gober Sosebee raced out of) with a Hav-A-Tampa blunt painted behind the door...
Thanks for the tidbit and complement, Dave!
I notice that some of the cars have the roof numbers backwards and some were the normal facing position. Was it optional to change the position of the number on road courses?
So I have the day off (First Tuesday in MONTHS) and I'm setting down to get to writing the "Georgia Racing History" piece and I see this! Haha....perfect timing, huh? Hopefully I will have next Tuesday off as well!
Until next time
-Cody
One of the best all around classes they've had yet! Couldn't believe the amount of older pioneers that were inducted!
