I didn't recall Coo Coo's "take him to the woodshed" recommendation! We could use some promotinal stuff like that today.
Wilson Daily Times November 14, 1977 covered the Dale Earnhardt/Robert Gee win in the Southern Late Model 200 at Wilson County Speedway.
The July 9, 1964 Langley Field Modified 10th place finisher Shelton McNair was the proprietor of McNair Oil Company in Plymouth, North Carolina, a gateway to North Carolina's outer banks. ironically, McNair once set a flying mile speed record on the sands of Daytona Beach driving a fuel injected '57 Chevy. RR member, Tim Hamm some years back posted these photos of the bespeckled McNair at Wilson County Speedway in 1975 with his 1964 Chevelle and in 1976 with a 1969 Chevelle - both painted in his usual red livery carrying the number M-1.
10th place finisher Shelton McNair was from Plymouth, NC and was a regular competitor at Wilson County Speedway in the 70s driving his potent red M-1 Chevelle late models.
Referencing the Detroit Free Press writer's comparison of Bill France's build to Walt Dropo, I recall having once had a Walt Dropo baseball card. Shortly after the Boston Red Sox traded Walt Dropo to the Detroit Tigers in 1952, Dropo set a major leagie baseball record by getting hits in twelve consecutive at bats.
