On This Day June 28, 1981 NASCAR Winston West Coca Cola 200 at Laguna Seca Raceway

Stock Car Racing History

Winner, Roy Smith's car owner, the late Bob Beadle, became a huge force in west coast stock car racing. Winning the lease at Monroe, Washington's Evergreen Speedway, Beadle promoted the huge 500-lap Washington 500 NASCAR races. I was fortunate to sponsor the winning car of that huge event when Derrike Cope drove our 7-Eleven / George Jefferson Ford to victory in 1985. The names of Roy Smith and Bob Beadle are synonymous with racing excellence.

80 Year Old "Cowboy" Jim Kennedy Scores Friday Night Win in Pa. - 81 Year Old Red Farmer Races in Pa. on July 5

Stock Car Racing History

It ain't stock cars, but an e-mail from buddy, Frank in Pennsylvania is an inspiration to all racers. On Friday night, June 20, famed Pennsylvania sprint car star, "Cowboy" Jim Kennedy bested 16 other "305" Sprints to claim a feature win at Mint Hall, Pennsylvania's Racing for Heroes Raceway -formerly Clinton County Raceway.

"Cowboy" Jim is now 80 years old and still running strong! Congrats, Cowboy!

Pennsylvania racers and race fans sure do appreciate and respect their "elders." Just down the road from where 80 year old Kennedy won, 81 year old Red Farmer is scheduled to compete on July 5 at Clearfield, Pennsylvania's Americas Motorsports Park in a Late Model race! Let's hear it for the veterans!

AUGUSTA GT 200 June 28, 1969

Stock Car Racing History

Dennis, I recall that Pete Hamilton Camaro sounding like the later Junior Johnson Cup cars with the 180 degree headers. No other car in GT sounded like the Gene White / Pete Hamilton car with its high pitched screech.

FBI Arrests 9 in Fake Tennessee Coal Mine Scheme; NASCAR Driver Brian Rose Indicted as Ringleader

General

And in the interest of not leaving out other famous NASCAR coal miners, the late Harry Ranier should get a tip of the hat.

FBI Arrests 9 in Fake Tennessee Coal Mine Scheme; NASCAR Driver Brian Rose Indicted as Ringleader

And speaking of "Coal" cars... as I make this post at approximately 8:20 EDT time on Friday night, the "Clean Coal" JR Motorsports Chevy driven by Regan Smith is holding down 9th place in the Nationwide race at Kentucky. That's another fraud in my book... promoting coal as "clean."

FBI Arrests 9 in Fake Tennessee Coal Mine Scheme; NASCAR Driver Brian Rose Indicted as Ringleader

General

Almost sounds like a page out of the 70s and 80s. The Associated Press is reporting the arrest of 9 individuals in several states in a fake coal mine investment scheme based out of Kingsport, Tennessee. And WSOC Television in Charlotte indicates that a defrauded investor in Charlotte blew the whistle on ringleader Brian C. Rose, aka John Hankins. Rose is listed as having made 41 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts and 3 ARCA starts between 2000 - 2014. Rose's father has previously served prison time for operating a similar Ponzi scheme. The FBI also indicates that Rose and his family are under investigation for a purported separate fraudulent energy investment scheme.

The FBI indicates that it seized both race horses and race cars from Rose, aka Hankins.

Remember Kenny Childers - "The Coal Miner" and Jim Stacy??

And from WSOC-TV in Charlotte:

Didn't that Gilder fellow used to sell pick axes and coal shovels around Kingsport?!

LD. Ottinger of Newport, Tennessee wheels a championship NASCAR LMS ride for "The Coal Miner" in the 70s as posted by Statsman at Randy Ayers Modeling site.

Dear Friends,

This is the first time I've logged onto the computer since before my surgery on June 6. The 11 days I spent in the hospital was a wee bit more than I had planned. I came home the evening of Monday June 16 and when I awoke on Tuesday morning, my left foot and left leg were swollen twice the size of my right and scared me to death.

Wanting to take no chances, the surgeon had me go immediately to the nearest emergency room (at a different hospital, of course, than where I had my surgery) fearing I might have a blood clot. I was there by 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning 6/17 and spent the next 4 hours having venous ultrasounds performed on both legs, feet and groin areas searching for a possible clot. None was found and the diagnosis was that there was some vascular insufficiency following surgery that had caused the swelling.

I was ordered to keep my left leg propped up as high as possible except when walking. The swelling has now subsided, but I do have a strange tingling in my left leg. I return to see my surgeon on Monday, June 30.

The good news was that as soon as I returned home from the emergency room, I parked my walker and haven't used it since. I made a brief trip out of the house with Joyce to Target this past Tuesday. We used my 4Runner with her driving and with the extra stiff sport suspension, I was able to feel every bump in the road!

I guess the healing is going to take a while, but I sure do feel better already than I did. Just need to lose about 50 pounds or so now!

I can't begin to thank each of you and so many others for the thoughts and prayers that were sent my way before, during and after my surgery. Pathology results showed no cancer in any of the stuff removed. For that I feel extremely blessed.

It's going to be some days before I spend much time around the computer, but please know I am thinking of all of you and so many others who have been such dear friends.

Thank you for being around.

Dave Fulton
