April 30: A 4-bagger for Richard Petty

Stock Car Racing History

Though he posted 6 career Richmond wins and was the defending Richmond 250 race champion and defending Grand National champion, David Pearson didn't enter the April 30, 1967 Richmond 250. Following the April 17, 1967 North Wilkesboro race, Pearson left the Cotton Owens Dodge team and signed on with the Holman-Moody factory Ford team to run big races only. This left NASCAR with non-entry Pearson's likeness on the stock Richmond program cover, though he wasn't entered.

Here's Billy Wood lurking near two-time NASCAR National Modified Champion, Eddie Crouse of Glen Allen, Virginia after a 1963 Crouse National Championship modified win at Richmond's Virginia State Fairgrounds Strawberry Hill 1/2-mile dirt oval:

Dennis.. that worked perfectly. When I turn my Android tablet to the vertical position,  I have the 3-bar menu icon in upper left corner - and, as you said, the chat option appears bottom left corner when the 3-bar icon is clicked. Maybe Jeff should nickname you "Sherlock!" 😃 Thanks!

Thanks, Chase. I have no 3 line menu bar on the Android tablet. If I click on my avatar in the menu bar, I get a menu beginnng with "Items You Like or Dislike" and ending with "Account Settings." No Chat option, though.

Sam Ard

RacersReunion® OUTREACH

You never know what will jog special racing memories. Beginning in February 1981, I hosted what the late journalist and broadcaster, Chris Economaki called the "greatest parties in racing history" - the Daytona Wrangler Speedweeks Parties - always on Thursday night after the Twin qualifying races. These parties were planned and staged by the famous Rhodes Brothers, who provided the venues, food and entertainment - by them.

The very first Wrangler Speedweeks party in 1981 was held at The Showboat restaurant and nightclub on the mainland side of the Port Orange Bridge. At times the Thursday Twin Qualifiers fell on Valentines Day - February 14. February 14 just happened to be Sam Ard's birthday. This morning while reading the tributes to Sam flowing into the Florence, SC funeral home handling his arrangements, the tribute below caught my eye:

"RIP my friend. I thank you for all the great memories both at and away from the track. I still remember the Wrangler party in Daytona on your birthday. Thanks you for all you gave to auto racing. Prayers to Jo and the family."
