Stock Car Racing History
Associated Press story:
Tim and I heard the Fox boys say the Southern 500 was coming this weekend and we thought we'd missed the whole summer and gone straight from winter to Labor Day.
Texas grass is tough & strange. We moved into a brand new house in a brand new Dallas subdivision in 1984. Had a yard made of rocks and black Texas gumbo. The yard was hydo-seeded and thick Bermuda grew in. Could hardly get the mower through that stuff. The next year, lawn service used wrong chemical mix and killed all the grass in our subdivision.
Dennis, I am so glad you found the 1980 Richmond News Leader Ray Hendrick article by Randy Hallman. I might repost that on the Ray Hendrick Remembrance page if you don't mind. Love that colorized photo from Mooers Field on the cover of the 1954 Speed Age. Great stuff.
Richmond stock car driver Mel Bradley had his priorities right back in 1956.... get married then head to Mooers Field Speedbowl for the honeymoon!
