The Legend's New Clothes

General

Wow... can't wait to see the Legend's new duds!

Is it true that Gillette is considering reprising its 1950s ad campaign "LOOK SHARP, BE SHARP" for the Legend's first appearance in head to toe electric blue??!!

How are ya fixed for blades?

I saw an ad for that place the other night and I thought I just had to rib Tim about it. And then I thought of him again awhile ago taking his grandsons to the Charlotte race last year when my younger daughter called this morning and told me she was taking her son (my oldest grandson who went to Occoneechee with me in November) to the Saturday Nationwide race at Charlotte.

I want Tim to surface, too. And, I'm with you about not trading the hat and boots for a DW suit!

Next time The Legend is in Charlotte to visit the NASCAR Hall, attend a race, or whatever, I have found the perfect establishment where he may have a suit custom made!!

R.I.P. 12-Year Old Tyler Morr - Succumbed this p.m. from Florida Kids Club Race Crash Injuries

Local and Regional Short Track Racing

I kinda tremble thinking about 11- year old Macy Causey driving those full sized Sportsman Cars at the 1/2-mile Virginia Motor Speedway.

I would not be in favor of my child or grandchild racing at those ages.

Arcadia boy injured in speedway race dies

Tyler Morr Drives His #17

A 12-year-old Arcadia boy injured after crashing his race car during a youth event at the Auburndale Speedway on Saturday has died.

Tyler Morr died at 3:15 today at All Children's Hospital, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

The Auburndale Speedway is planning a tribute to Tyler this weekend which will include a fundraising effort for the 12-year-old's family.

Morr was driving a black stock car in a Kids Club heat race at the track, 5640 W. County Road 542 in Winter Haven, when the crash occurred.

Polk County sheriff's deputies said the races are regularly scheduled events for youths ages 12 to 16, and this race involved five cars racing for eight laps.

During the race, Tyler was in the outside of the second turn when a second car, driven by 12-year-old Justin Cribbs of Lakeland, passed him on the inside.

Tyler moved toward the inside and into Justin, deputies said. Tyler lost control of the car, which rotated clockwise and struck a concrete wall bordering the outside of the track.

Track rescue and medical personnel immediately were at the crash scene, and Tyler was initially flown to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, deputies said. His condition stabilized, and he then was flown to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Justin was not injured and drove his vehicle to the pit area when the race was stopped.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, and both were harnessed and wearing helmets. The vehicles, which are non-registered, modified cars built strictly for youth racing, were reinforced inside as is common with standard racing cars, deputies said.

Speeds of vehicles were estimated to be no more 40 to 45 mph.

Other races at the track were canceled after the crash.

Charlotte Official Who Over Estimated Hall of Fame Attendance & Miscalculated Budget Arrested, Charged with DWI, Hit & Run

I noted the above mentioned Lynn Wheeler was one of the politicians and guests stranded this week when US Air cancelled its London flight. I feel just like you regarding TWC Arena. It's hardly big enough for the Circus to operate and not large enough to host a major basketball tourney. I, too, voted against its construction.

Oh... here are the "lucky" state delegations who get to party at the NASCAR Hall of Fame during the Demo Convention:

NASCAR Hall of Fame:

Delegations: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee.

Planner: Emily Morrow and Neil Howard, Team Epic.

Jim, I thought of Charlotte this morning and the millions to fix street lights when I read that Detroit had decided to simply abandon over half of its street lights to save money in the ever shrinking metro area - they've lost 605 of their population since 1950.

Every single thing you say is spot on.

I'll never get over blowing up one of the nicest coliseums in the country.

And how about that snafu yesterday with Veep Joe Biden's motorcade deciding to pass downtown just as the opened Speed Street!!

And from WSOC-Television News:

By Jason Stoogenke

CHARLOTTE, N.C.

Charlotte's embattled former tourism chief is charged with drunken driving.

Troopers arrested Tim Newman Tuesday night along Interstate 77 near LaSalle Street. They said he hit a vehicle and kept going and that when they approached Newman, he had a "strong odor of alcohol" and "very slurred speech." They also said his eyes were "very glassy."

Troopers said Newman refused to take a Breathalyzer test at first, but ultimately blew a .14, almost twice the legal limit. They said Newman told them, "I had two beers."

Eyewitness News got the 911 call. The victim says, "I got hit while I was driving. We're in bumper-to-bumper traffic... He kept saying he was fine, but I think he was drunk."

Troopers charged Newman with DWI and hit-and-run.

Newman made his bond. So far, it doesn't look like his license has been revoked.

Those who know him, like City Council's Patrick Cannon, texted Eyewitness News, "It's truly unfortunate. One can only hope it's a lesson learned not to be repeated."
