Pop Quiz: What Item was Standard Equipment on David Pearson & Dick Trickle Race Cars?

General

I suspect this isn't much of a quiz and everybody probably already knew the answer, but Pearson & Trickle definitely shared one common trait. I always remember Buddy Baker talking abot how Pearson flicked his cigarette at him as he passed by going in the corner.

Remember These First Time Winners?

General

Don't you think it's usually pretty exciting to see a driver get their first big time win? My favorite in these clips is the #90 Junie Donlavey/Jody Ridley shot at Dover. How many of these first time wins do you remember?

Clint Gets Pattie as Crew Chief at MWR

Brian Pattie named crew chief for Clint Bowyer

By JENNA FRYER
AP Auto Racing Writer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Michael Waltrip Racing has hired Brian Pattie as crew chief for new driver Clint Bowyer.

Pattie was most recently crew chief for Juan Pablo Montoya, and led him to a spot in the 2009 Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Pattie has 18 wins as a crew chief in the Nationwide Series, one in Cup.

Bowyer has moved to MWR after driving for Richard Childress Racing since 2004. He spent six full seasons in the Cup Series with Childress, but the two were unable to put together a contract extension to keep him with the organization.

Bowyer will drive a new third team for MWR. The team will also field Toyota Camry's for Martin Truex Jr., and a shared ride for Mark Martin and team part-owner Michael Waltrip.

NASCAR HOF

General

Thoroughly agree. Saw the article this morning, too and thought how much the NASCAR HOF needs a Veteran's Committee.

Remembering Jim Paschal

Stock Car Racing History

Used to love to watch Jim race. One of my fondest memories is seeing Jim in the #14 Friedken Enterprises Plymouth and Cale in the #27 Banjo Matthews ride race side by side for the lead lap after lap in Rockingham's first spring race, the 1966 Peach Blossom 500. Got to see Jim win in the Grand American division in that red/white/blue Javelin at Raleigh Fairgrounds in 1970. After Jim left the Tom Friedken Grand National ride following the 1967 season, Tom put our local Richmond hero Ray Hendrick in a second Friedken car - #15 - for four Virginia Grand National races at South Boston, Langley Field, Richmond Fairgrounds and Martinsville. Ray posted 4 top 10 finishes in his 4 Friedken starts, including a 5th at Langley.

He is a class act and so is Ward. It was a very happy time at Richmond when Jeff won there in the Exide Roush ride. I also got to set up a National Geographic Explorer special for Jeff at the time. What a pro.

Old RR Geezers (men) Please Stay Home When it Snows; Ladies, Don't Drive in the Rain

General

Billy, your comments and my recent drive to Occoneechee brought back a scary memory for me. Around Jan. - Feb. 1983, while living in Greensboro, my wife left late one afternoon to drive to Raleigh in her Toyota Corrolla. Enroute, one of those once a decade ice storms hit, completely covering I-85 in ice. I was home with our two small girls when the phone rang around 6:30 pm. My wife told me she had been in an accident. She said she was ok, but she thought the NC Highway patrolman had a broken leg. She was calling from a little service station just off of I-85 at Efland, NC, where the accident had happened. As described by her and the Highway Patrolman, a car spun on the solid sheet of ice ahead of my wife and she locked her brakes, sliding into the outside guardrail. The Highway Patrolman was almost directly behind her and stopped to assist. She had just gotten into the passenger seat of the Highway Patrol car when it was struck from behind by another vehicle that lost control, shoving the Highway patrol car into my wife's stopped car and totaling what the Highway Patrolman said had been a driveable vehicle. The officer was injured and couldn't move. He ordered my wife out of the car and down the embankment away from the wreckage while he radioed for help. The poor fellow's luck only got worse. The ambulance carrying him to the hospital skidded off the road on the ice and wrecked. I drove fromGreensboro toEfland with my two girls in my station wagon. Even at 15-20 mph, I could hardly hold it straight. Even though the road has been widened and the curve eliminated on i-85, I could still see the little service station where my wife waited that icy night after she called. That Highway Patrolman was a hero in my opinion. Hehad only my wife's safety at heartand had put himself in harm's way on her behalf. Later, he even chewed out our State Farm Auto Insurance agent who was waffling on the damage claim and testified that my wife's car suffered no damage until hit by the Highway Patrol car. State Farm was more interested in who was responsible for damage to the guardrail. I don't care what anyone says, I hold the NC Highway Patrol in the highest regard and know that driving on solid sheets of ice is not gender related when it comes to wrecks.
