That is so good to know he is back home. Will continue prayers for a speedy recovery and good test results.
I received a note this evening from member Bill McPeek's wife, Bunnie that he'd had a medical issue last evening and has been hospitalized with tests still being run. Please remember Bill in your thoughts and prayers.
You'll see below where Tim Leeming has updated Bill's condition and the good news that he is at home.
I've never attended a dirt race at a track larger than 1/2-mile. I bet it was something to behold a pack of cars going into the turns at a 1-mile dirt oval!
Happy Birthday, Junie, the quintessential southern gentleman. R.I.P.
No, our tiny little shop was a former truck repair building a couple of blocks off the main highway 176 in Campobello, between Inman and Landrum. I used to pass James Hylton's shop on 176 each day driving from Spartanburg to Campobello.
My #1 racing hero would be car owner, Bud Moore - a man of integrity, grit and helpfulness. I admire Bud as much for things he did away from the track as what he accomplished at the track. We know the story of Bud in WWII. Unless you dealt personally with Bud as I did, you don't know that he always gave more than he promised, contract or no contract. He helped you when there was no percentage for him in helping you. He just thought it was the right thing to do. We'll never know how many racers Bud helped or how many folks Bud and wife, Betty together helped.
When my family moved to Spartanburg from Texas, Bud insisted we move into his lake house at no charge. Bud and Betty met us there after a two day 1200 mile drive in two cars with two weeks worth of groceries in the trunk of his Town Car that Betty had procured for us. As Betty showed my wife and daughters around the lake house, Bud took me in the kitchen. He stood on a chair and reached atop a cabinet. "Fulton," he said... "when things get tough for you over at that new race shop with your rookie driver, I put this little purple bag up here for you on top of the cabinet with a bottle of Crown Royal. Trust me, you'll need it."
When we couldn't get factory team parts like a new Ford front end for our team, Bud told me to come over to his shop and get a couple. He did the same with windshields. And, he never expected one single thing in return. He was/is just a genuinely nice person, who operated in a sport with more than its share of weasels.
OK, Cody... give us the scoop and all the good dirt. What's going on over in Dawsonville? Did Ernie's wife go to Patricia Driscoll defense school? And, what's Ernie's wife doing driving a foreign car? She could at least try to run over him in a Lincoln!

Ernie Elliotts wife charged with aggravated assault
The wife of famed NASCAR engine builder Ernie Elliott was arrested early Tuesday morning.
Sheila G. Elliott, 63, was charged with felony aggravated assault in connection with an incident that occurred on March 18 at the family's racing compound on Elliott Family Parkway.
According to the arrest warrant, the suspect over revved the engine of her 2004 Mercedes Benz sedan and attempted to run her husband over with the vehicle, forcing him to climb "underneath a trailer for safety."
He was not injured during the incident, which was reported to local authorities on March 24, the same day a warrant was secured for Sheila Elliott's arrest.
Officers attempted to make an arrest that day, but were not able to do so due to a health concern.
"Cpl. Ethan Taffar investigated and was about to take her into custody for aggravated assault under family violence when a medical condition arose, which had to be dealt with at that particular moment," said Capt. Tony Wooten, sheriff's spokesman.
The nature of the argument that led to the alleged assault on March 18 was not publically revealed.
"The marital issues that led up to it are not for us to discuss," Wooten said. "It's our job to investigate the alleged crime and that's what we've done and now she's arrested."
Revered as one of NASCAR's top engine builders, Ernie Elliott helped power brother Bill Elliott to numerous victories over the family's 20-year collaboration, including his 1988 championship.
He also built the engine that holds NASCAR's Sprint Cup qualifying record. His engines have 39 wins, 148 top five's, 291 top 10's and 51 poles.
As of Tuesday afternoon, she remained in police custody without bond.
Look forward to keeping up with your new undertaking about Julian Petty.
They soaked 'em in my day, Johnny. Never heard of intentionally puncturing them.
