Little To Run In The K&N Pro Series In 2012

General

Folks.... PLEASE.....

The point I tried, obviously very unsuccessfully to make.... for any of you who know anything about the history of Winston West.... is that those cars were IDENTICAL to Cup cars of the time period and competed in races with the Cup cars regardless of the sponsoring name on the series.

The K&N cars are NOT IDENTICAL to the current Cup cars, much less powerful.

I, also, wish Mr. Little all the success in the world, but back when Chad Little and Derrike Cope drove those cars out of Yakima, Washington for George Jefferson, they were FULL-BLOWN equivalents of the Cup cars and competed in the same races with them. Comparing the K&N Series to that is very much an apples to oranges comparison - although, I guess, the years they ran those darned bumble-bee sounding six cylinders in the Busch Series is also an apples to oranges comparison of that time span to the previous LMS & Busch/Bud 8 cylinder series and today's 8 cylinder Nationwide Series.

Again, the problem I have is equating the K&N cars to the cars that Chad & Derrike ran. It is a poor comparison.

I love the way folks muddy up the waters in releases like these. When Chad Little won his 1987 Winston West Series Title driving for George Jefferson the cars were identical to Cup cars and competed at Riverside, etc.

I can't say that I blame Heritage Bank considering what I've read about the winninhg bidder and their ride along schools.

The Funnel Bacakonator Beats Danica Patrick Fit Fuel Menu Any Day

I got really upset a couple years back when the Duke's jar went to a plastic lid... now of course the whole thing is plastic. (I had two fried bologna sandwiches yesterday).

When I first moved to Wilson, NC in 1970 I "discovered" the pimento cheese and bologna sandwich. Had to be made with Sunbeam brand bread and Duke's mayonaise. My wife wouldn't/won't eat pimento cheese or mayonaise. Her loss.

The Funnel Bacakonator Beats Danica Patrick Fit Fuel Menu Any Day

General

They must be having a race in Charlotte this week or something. The local Charlotte tv stations are gobbling up all the usual bigger and better CMS news releases. After perusing the offerings on the new Speedway menus, I will definitely vote for the Funnel Bacakonator over the Danica Fit Fuel Menu. I'lltake the Mac n Cheese Pimento burger over the Danica fare, also. Excuse me while I go grab a bite.

New menu item at BofA 500: 'Funnel Bacakonator'

Updated: 6:00 am EDT October 12, 2011

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte Motor Speedway has teamed up with Levy Restaurants to unveil a new menu of unique items that will be served at concession stands during the Bank of America 500 race week, including the "Funnel Bacakonator."

The Funnel Bacakonator consists of a funnel cake that is covered in bacon pieces and drizzled with chocolate and strawberry sauces.

Although the calorie count for the Funnel Bacakonator is not yet known, speedway officials are touting it as a calorie saver. "The Bacakonator is great for people on diets. After you eat one, your calorie count will carry you for a couple of weeks and you dont have to eat anything else," said Vice President of Communications for Charlotte Motor Speedway Scott Cooper.

Enjoying fun and unique foods is a big part of the racing experience, said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. We always want to push the envelope when it comes to our concessions and offer our fans something they can only enjoy in Charlotte. Ive personally tried the Funnel Bacakonator and it is awesome. I cant wait for our fans to try these new items and see what they think!

Fans attending the race can also try the new Flame and Fuel menu with a one-of-a-kind burger offerings like the Charlotte Pimento Mac-n-Cheese Burger, with Angus beef, pimento mac and cheese and crumbled pork rinds.

Danica Patrick's Fit Fuel menu will also make its debut this weekend featuring lighter fare and vegetarian items recommended by Patrick.

The Danica Patrick Fit Fuel menu includes a turkey burger, veggie burger, a grilled chicken sandwich, a veggie chopped salad, fruit and veggie cups, trail mix, baked potato chips and Clif and Luna Bars.

Among the new menu items, the speedway is offering gluten-free snacks to race fans.

Stock Car Racing History

I don't know if these scans will reproduce very well - they are froma pretty tattered1988 NASCAR Press Guide. Lists Year by Year Points Standings for Sportsman and Modified through 1987. I'm also tring to post my favorite lists- the most popular drivers in each series. What's special is the " Most Popular" was voted back then by the driver's competitors, not the fans. The reason 1976 Sportsman standings are circled is that I was doing PR work for LD Ottinger in 1988 & 1989 and researching his championship years. Please note - even though he only ran a couple of Modified races, Handsome Harry Gant was voted by his peers as the Most Popular Driver in both divisions in 1977 - a first! That speaks volumes about the respect other drivers had for Harry. I was fortunate to also get to work with him in 1988 and 1989 when Detroit Gasket was an associate sponsor of his Leo Jackson cars.
