September 23 - This day in Petty history 9/23/62 - Richard finishes 2nd to Nelson Stacy in the Old Dominion 500 at Martinsville. Teammate Jim Paschal finishes 9th in the #41 Plymouth.9/23/73 - Richard finishes 2nd to Bobby Allison in the Wilkes 400 at North Wilkesboro.9/23/79 - Richard finishes 2nd behind Buddy Baker at the Old Dominion 500 at Martinsville. Petty's rookie protege, Joe Millikan, finishes 3rd in the L.G. DeWitt Chevy.9/23/84 - Both Pettys finish in the top 10 in the Goody's 500 at Martinsville - Richard 8th in a Mike Curb Pontiac and Kyle 10th in a Petty Ford.
