October 16 - This day in Petty history 10/16/49 - Lee finishes 2nd in a sandwich of Flocks - Bob is 1st, Fonty is 3rd - in the Wilkes 200 at North Wilkesboro in NASCAR's first Strictly Stock (later Grand National) season.10/16/55 - Lee finishes 8th in a 200 lap race at Martinsville. Jim Paschal finishes 3rd driving a #44 Chevy for Julian Petty.10/16/60 - The 1959 rookie of the year, Richard Petty, finishes 2nd to Speedy Thompson in the inaugural National 400 at Charlotte. Lee (42) finishes 36th, and Jim Paschal (44) finishes 8th.10/16/66 - Marvin Panch finishes 6th in #42 Petty Plymouth in the National 400 at Charlotte. Richard finishes 38th after starting fourth.
