With Daytona just around the corner

Two good ones about Daytona racing.

I highly doubt this one has been in print in over 20+ years. Written by Bill Neely, who wrote many other racing related books, this one begins with turn of the century beach racing & continues through the 1979 Speedweeks - the wreck, the fight, Richard Petty's 6th 500 win, and Kyle's ARCA win. Its been several years since I've read it - but one accuracy issue that still bugs me is that Neely mixed up the race winners history list of the late model sportsman and ARCA races. He added Kyle's name as the 79 winner after a series of LMS winners. But doesn't detract overall from a good history of speed and sand.

A fairly contemporary book written by Ed Hinton - long-time writer for the Orlando Sentinel and more recently for [link: ESPN.com ]. Its focused more on the history of the Daytona 500 itself.
