Donnie Head's reddish-orange Chevy II was one super fast racecar and it SOUNDED fast. You didn't have to look to know it was Donnie's car. It was probably faster than most of Wilson County Speedway's 1970s Late Model class.
I was at that race and almost got up and drove the 4 hours back to Concord, NC! I could never figure our why Dale was pitting 31 laps into the race. To the best of my memory, he was running pretty good.
And if you look close at Dale's face in the 2nd photo, you see the "Earnhardt stare" that will intimidate anyone that receives it.
