Flock Brothers Try To Put Stop To Baker Streak
The Flock brothers—three strong—will be out to check the victory march of Charlotte's own Buck Baker in the championship modified races at the Southern States fairgrounds track Friday night.
Fonty and Bob, both hailing from Atlanta, have filed their entries for the Friday night program here, and both will be driving cars entered by Frank Christian, popular Atlanta sportsman.
Fonty will be driving Christian's No. 14 Ford, and he'll be seeking revenge for the last lap defeat handed him by Baker in the feature race here two weeks ago. Fonty led the race for 24 laps, but on the final lap Baker streaked by to take first place in one of the most sensational events of the season.
Bob will be driving Christian's new No. 7 Ford, and the oldest of the three Flock brothers always ranks as a top threat in any league.
Tim, the youngest of the three brothers, will come over from Winston-Salem to drive Taft Sloan's No. 91 Ford in what should be another top entry.
In addition to the three Flocks, the field will include such stars as Buddy Shuman, Charlotte; Bill Snowden, St. Augustine, Fla.; Bugs Raper, Jimmy Lewallen and Pap White, High Point; Frank Mundy, Atlanta: Joe Eubanks and Cotton Owens, Spartanburg, S. C.; Doug Cox, Greenville, S. C., and many other top ranking performers.

I guess when you no longer have 632 credentialed media members like we did at Richmond in the 90s, you can tear down the big infield media center to complement the 60,000 grandstand seats already torn down. And when you no longer have to park the 62 Busch Series entries in the infield we had to accommodate in the 90s, along with 50 Cup cars some races, you can certainly free up some infield space. I guess this is the new NASCAR. I can handle the name change ok, but ISC probably doesn't realize that Richmond area race fans all refer to the track as RIR. They may be confused.
