Also, I wonder how much the kits were and how many were sold. I'll bet Billy Biscoe knows!

Wow BB, what a story! I can't believe you went to Dixie Speedway! That's where I announce sometimes in Woodstock Ga. The Swims family owns it. It's where Bill Elliott won his first ever race while it was still asphalt.Does it look like dirt or asphalt to ya'll. I can't tell. Because if BB is right about the time (1976) it was on the verge of the asphalt being torn up. The track opened in 1969 as a dirt track. It was paved in 1972 and the Swims family (who already owned Rome Speedway and the Cumming Dragstrip) bought the track in 76'. Didn't have good attendance right at the beginning, so around 1977 (I think) they tore up the pavement and put in dirt.I would love to have a copy of this! Thanks so much for sharing Andy and BB!

That SCR article appeared in the May 1975 issue (page 34). Richard Petty raced the Petty Engineering Dodge Colt Kit Car only 3 times as far as I can tell. He raced it first at Woodstock, GA in August of 1974, and followed it up with runs at Asheboro, and Myrtle Beach.Billy - Correct me if I'm wrong on this. I have a photo of Petty at Myrtle Beach in the car on my website. Here is the link :

Cody, to answer your first question... yes, the author of the SCR piece was the same Jim Hunter who became a NASCAR VP and Darlington Raceway prez. He was a journalist first, out of Columbia, SC, later went to Talladega to head up PR for Don Naman (where he crashed a pace car while under the influence) then was moved to Daytona to do NASCAR PR and was replaced at Talladega by Jim Freeman.
