All-Star Race - Love It Or Hate It?

Question for today: Who looks forward to what is now referred to as the "Sprint All-Star Race" and why? Of course, you know that having asked you that question, I will now give you my answer, even though you didn't ask. In the beginning, which was in 1985, I thought it was a grand idea and loved the format and concept of the new race, "The Winston." It didn't take more than three years for NASCAR to change my mind.

Rather than rewrite and update an entire article, I'm going to tack on one of mine from April of 2003, which was before Brian and before the stupid "Chase" thing, though I showed just a bit of ESP in referring to the "Winston Cup chase" in the article.

I have outlined many of the hundreds of major and minor changes over the intervening years that took a good idea (Thanks T. Wayne; I always loved you) to the joke I wrote about in 2003. There was one thing in there that I had actually forgotten about; that inane "No Bull Sprint" that served no earthly purpose, but someone thought it sounded good.

Since 2003, the format and eligibility rules have continued to change on a yearly basis. If one didn't know better,
