I am writing this Legendtorial on Monday Night, September 5, 2011, the Labor Day holiday. For many years I would have been in Darlington on this day, or, after the race was moved to Sundays, would have been recovering from the long weekend in the infield at that historic facility. I considered using my Legendtorial time tonight to talk about all the Darlington races I attended but decided to pass that option. I did post a Forum about the first Southern 500 I attended in 1957 and the vivid memories that the race left in my mind and the one memory that was deeply buried for a number of years. But, I decided not to lament over the poor Judgment of NASCAR in ending the Labor Day tradition at Darlington in favor of first Fontana, and now Atlanta.
