Now, I'm doing what I've always been told I do best...complaining...and ever mindful of the "Rules of Engagement", that word will have to do. This whole Chase fiasco came about because the new HMWIC (Head Man What's In Charge) felt that Matt Kenseth's 2003 Championship (The very last Winston Cup) was "boring." Really???
Today, we are looking at the same "Champion" for FIVE consecutive years, though two of those would not have been his with the old method of crowning a Champion, which entailed all 36 races. Those other two would have been in the record books as Championships 5 & 6 for a guy named Jeff Gordon, and this year, we would be looking at Jeff running for a record-tying 7th!
That would have been exciting! "If" we were looking at that scenario, there would be no end of conversations and comparisons of Gordon to King Richard and Dale Sr., who already hold their own seven. The excitement, no matter which side you came down on, would have been REAL! We wouldn't have to conjure up something to talk about.
Okay, those are some of my thoughts for the day. I could go on and on...as you all know...but how about chipping in here? Are you excited about the Chase? Or, are you more excited about the NFL games on Sunday, and racing at New Hampshire, not so much? (New Hampshire is tempting as a second conversation, but I'll leave that one for another day)
