I want those things as I’m sure most of us here do. The premise of the song is a grown up sitting on Santa’s knee and reminding him how she sat there when she was younger asking for dolls, dresses, candy and such, but now that she’s grown up she has other priorities. While I sincerely believe in the spirit of Santa Claus, we have seen that Santa hasn’t been able, for the most part, to deliver such things. There is, however, a story of promise that would allow us to believe that such things are possible when requests are properly addressed. Let’s review that promise as recorded in the Second Chapter of St. Luke from the King James version:

And it came to pass in those days that there went out a degree from Ceasar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. And this taxing was first made when Cyrenitus was governor of Syria. And all went to be taxed, everyone unto his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galiliee, out of the City of Nazareth, into Judea unto the City of David which is called Bethlehem because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manager because there was no room for them in the inn. And there with in the same country, shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the Angel of the The Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them , fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you. Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manager. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God and saying “Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace, good will toward men.

It would be on my Grown up Christmas List that these things would come to pass. As you see, what Amy Grant sings about and St. Luke writes about are, in essence, much the same. However, the knee of Santa Claus is not so much the place to ask for these things as is that manger in Bethlehem, or, moreover, the Cross of Calvary 33 years after that special night when the heavens were filled with the Multitude of Heavenly hosts. Let us not forget that the birth of that child is why we celebrate this special season of the year. Not Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Walmart Sales, the Lexus Season to remember, or any of those things with which we are inundated from Labor Day til Christmas eve. The first gift of Christmas was a new born baby. The ONLY gift we ever truly need is what that Baby Boy has given to us free for the taking. The things on my grown up Christmas List are possible to achieve if we remember the birth, life, death, and resurrection of that special Baby born 2,000 some odd years ago.

The Legend won’t leave you all without a special Christmas wish for each of you and I hope you enjoy it.

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me

Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to me

With God as our Father, brothers all are we,

Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony

Let peace begin with me, make this the moment now

With every step I take let this be my solemn vow,

To take each moment and live in moment in peace eternally,

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

Merry Christmas Everyone.
