KINGSPORT, Tenn. (June 22) — When opportunity presents itself, you’ve got to seize the moment and capitalize at “The Concrete Jungle.”
That’s exactly what Nate Monteith of Blountville did Friday at Kingsport Speedway on Ken Wilson Ford Night at the Races, when race leader Adam Long and Daniel Pope II tangled between turns one and two on lap 50, which resulted in Long spinning to bring the caution out. Both Long and Pope were relegated to the rear of the field for the restart, moving third-running Monteith into the lead. Monteith led the final 10 laps to capture his sixth NASCAR Whelen All-American Series “Dalton Direct Carpets” Late Model Stock feature win.
Pope, making a return to action after being involved in a wreck two weeks ago, set fast-time at 15.330-seconds in qualifying over Paul Nogradi Jr.’s lap of 15.366. Following an invert-five, Lee Tissot and Long brought the 20-car field to green from the front row.
Long grabbed the lead over Tissot on opening lap, with Blake Jones, Nogradi and Pope in tow. Pope got around Nogradi for the fourth spot on the second circuit racing off the fourth turn. Racing off (turn) two on lap 6, Pope moved past Jones into third in the running order.
